Elvira Bach is a German painter and sculptor. Best known for her colourfuil self-portraits, Bach’s work is distinctly stylized and deconstructs her identity and femininity into form, concept, and iconography.
When asked what inspired her in a 2014 interview with Artnet News, she enthusiastically replied: “My own life, flowers, my sons, friends, simply to be partb of this wonderful and exciting world!”Born in Neuenhain, Germany on June 22, 1951, she went on to attend the Berlin University of the Arts and moved to the city’s Kreuzberg district in 1972. A prominent member of the contemporary German artist collective Junge Wilde, along with painters such as Bernd Zimmer, Albert Oehlen, and Martin Kippenberger, Bach currently lives and works in Berlin.
