The works of We are out of office have a figurative, simplified character and a naive and playful atmosphere. Their aesthetics are bold and have a big focus on color. Winneke en Felix mostly work in ongoing series in which they explore specific themes or techniques. Working in a wide variety of media such as print, painting, sculpting, ceramics and textile allows them to use each mediums strengths to highlight different aspects of their work. They repeat and recycle elements in different works across different media to construct a web of connections between all their works, this to create a universe on it’s own.
At first sight the works are reflecting the beauty and joy in ordinary things. They capture moments of their life: An arrangement of objects in their home, fresh crop from the garden, a souvenir from a trip they made, a cup of coffee in the morning. They think in images and making work helps them to remember and relive these moments. They work from an archive of physical objects, photo’s, notes and memories that fill their home and became part of their everyday life.
