He focuses on the emotional power of color and the graphic rhythm of the line. The line, the horizon, is his favorite shape. Gerritz reduces what he perceives in his daily environment to color fields, shapes, composition elements. His landscapes are imaginary, representations of the landscapes of his mind. To him, towers are mysterious characters from the past, which have escaped war and highway routes. From 1965 (Haags Gemeentemuseum) his work has been exhibited at home and abroad. He was Visiting Professor at the Kunstfachhochschule in Hamburg, where he won the "Montblanc De La Culture Arts Patronage Award" in 2005.
