She received her first training with Russian sculpter Nina Jasclinsky, who had immigrated to Brussels. After the Second World War, Nolens studied at La Cambre, with Timmermans, from whom she learned the art of stained-glass, and studied painting with C. Counhaye.

In 1953 she began work on a series of murals for a church in Runxt and for the factories of Philips in Hasselt. In 1989, during a voyage to the United States, she completed a series of mosaics for the State of New York. Upon returning to Belgium, she joined the Pro Arte group.

Primarily a portrait painter, Nolens’ work evokes faces and attitudes marked by the melancholy of characters from some ancient tragedy, especially since the rough texture of many her paintings, a mixture of oil and sand, recalls the art of the fresco. She uses tepid, discreet tones, combined in the practice of a firm and strong drawing.

She showed regularly at the gallery of Albert the First in Brussels. She was given a retrospective exhibition in 1984 at the Cultural Center in Hasselt.
