Inspiration from flea markets

After finishing his education, Mew became an addict of flea markets. Every weekend he roamed all markets, searching for special objects. He formed an impressive collection of objects that became an inspiration for his assemblage art. The designs in his artworks are derived from his childhood and art training. His works are constructions of different themes: Decorative designs of birds and astronomy cards, Valentine images mixed with images of war.

Collage technique

In 1994 Mew focused on his collage technique. He added elements of the pop culture of the twentieth century to the themes he already used in his work. Some examples of these elements are magazines, comic books and advertisements. By combining photograph with painting, Mew discovers a whole new way of combine contradictions; high and low culture, joy and criticism.
