Svetlana Jovanovic is a Serbian artist. She studied photography in The Hague at the Royal Academy of Art and besides that she has a Master’s degree in psychology. In her photographs she shows her personal interpretations of stereotypes. She translates the idealized portraits of women, which question clichés and taboos, into high fashion photography.
In her work the themes of portraiture, sex, eroticism and identity are central. The portraits can be read as an addition to the myth of the type of ‘innocent wife’.
By creating images that are both aesthetically pleasing and provoking, Jovanovic explores the unclear visual legacy of women.
