The artist Harold Aspers is born and raised in the south of the Netherlands and studied architecture in Delft. After 15 years working successfully as an architect he decided to fully embrace his passion. From that moment on he has been working as an artist fulltime.

Within the old age theme of the female portrait Aspers is constantly seeking natural beauty that goes beyond the mere exterior. He is always exploring the boundaries of the medium. He mostly uses techniques he developed himself, creating life-size portraits layer by layer. His artworks show a sharp image from a distance, while upon closer inspection a masterful control of the materials used can be observed.
At the outset Aspers works very methodical creating it with a preconceived composition. During the process details fade, mix and disappear and the painting finds its own way. By stacking translucent layers the portrait is loaded both physically and emotionally. For Aspers the realistic aspect of the painting is inferior to what he wants the viewer to feel.
