The German artist Volker Kiehn was born in Bonn in 1965. He has been trained as a stonemason and sculptor. Since 1993 he has worked as a freelance sculptor.

Volker's work clearly stems from a crafts tradition. The images seem to have a natural movement, even though they are heavily abstracted by the artist. The statues are composed of sheet metal and then carefully welded at the edges. The surface of the material is of fundamental importance to Volker's work. It mainly consists of rust, in which the actual artistic process is hidden.

In 2005, Volker founded Die HO Gallery in Magdenburg, a non-profit organization representing various artists. The goal og this galeery is to connect artists, which is done by for example exhibitions with guest artists. In 2007 DieHO started an annual prize for young artistic talent from Saxony.

Volker Kiehn's work has been on display in the Netherlands at The Gallery The Hague since 2015.
