Simone Boon (Dutch) grew up in ever changing surroundings, such as Borneo, the Netherlands, Venezuela, Belgium, Malaysia and Austria (Vienna) and Hong Kong.
Living between east and west made her aware of the different ways in which people perceive the world around them, realizing that preconceptions, as well as understanding or misunderstanding are intertwined with the inner paradigms embedded in each of us by the culture of our upbringing. Perception thus has become an important consideration in Simone’s work. Another interest that she explores is how life evolves over time, space and place, and despite disruption is always in transition, weaving and layering the pieces of life in fascinating patterns.

Her artistic journey started with sculpture moving to ceramics and then onto video and photography. Photography has become her main form of expression, although the other mediums have not been left behind.
Her latest project concerns human identity from a female perspective, and is related to the philosophy of becoming, taking transitions and movements as the only existing form possible.
"Experimental photography is at the core of my work. My aim is to capture more moments in time, in this way referencing film. Revealing emerging forms of transitions, fluid movements in time and space, creating visual forms that were impossible to capture with the naked eye.
A theme running through my photo series concerns identity; a sense of self from a female perspective in a rapidly changing, globalising and intercultural world. Many ideas come intuitively. Starting with a concept, determining colours, draping the model in a world of soft silk and other matter combined with movement in light, space and time."
Simone Boon's artworks are now acquired by private collectors and for commission projects, for example the Barangaroo Project in Sydney and the Morpheus Hotel in Macau. Others were Ovolo Hotel HK Central, Grand Hyatt, Harbor Green and Eaton Apartments in Hong Kong, and Sheraton Hotel in Shenzhen.
