Puck Soetens lives and works in The Hague, Netherlands. In 2014 she completed her education at the Fotoacademie in Rotterdam. Since then she has been working as an independent portrait photographer and in 2020 she shifted her focus to photographing "portraits" of nature.
"If Only I Could Paint."
With her ongoing series "Portraits of a Flower" and "Portraits of the Sea," Puck Soetens (b. 1970) is in search of a painterly representation of the familiar. She draws inspiration from the still lifes of the painter Jan Mankes and other neo-realists, known for depicting all everyday objects and all everyday events,
With a deeply felt interest in nature, Puck is fascinated by the beauty and uniqueness of flowers and the unpredictability of the sea and its surroundings. In both series, she captures the most beautiful combinations of color and form with the goal of inviting the viewer to pause and enjoy all that makes nature so beautiful.

In addition to using color, the flower portraits are an endless study of residual space, symmetry and light. Often Puck's work ends in a fairy-tale image, momentarily catching you off guard as a viewer. The work is purely photographic, working with real fresh flowers that model her creations.
The Sea series was created during the endless walks Puck takes with her dogs along North Shore of Scheveningen. Every day is different there, sometimes very hectic, sometimes deserted. With her camera in her pocket, she captures the ever-changing character of always the same natural area.
All of Puck's photographs are sleek and seemingly simple, they have a painterly character, with Puck seeking harmony and stillness in an atmospheric contemporary realism.
