Peter Donkersloot paints according to the old 'layer upon layer' technique.

By painting with trasparant layers his paintings posess more of a sense of depth and make the colours more warm. This can not be achieved by using colours directly out of the packaging. The old masters tended to work the same way, with home made oil paints. Because the paints dried very slowly , they sometimes had to wait for weeks, before they could add an additional layer.

This is the reason why many artist, such as Donkersloot, now work with fast drying acrylic paint to create the same effect.

Peter Donkersloot can visualize the essence of the subject matter portrayed, painting subjects such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and Birgitte Bardot.

Within his repertoire you can also find pop artists such as Mick Jagger, Keith Richard and Bono, or mafia heroes such as Don Corleone, Al 'Scarface, Pacino and Tony Soprano.
